The term orizuru means ‘paper crane’. It is the most iconic figure in Japanese origami. This folded bird is a symbol of peace, longevity and happiness in Japan. The tradition of senbazuru involves folding a thousand cranes (1000 orizuru) in the hope that a wish will be granted, often associated with healing or a long life.
