To launch this new space, we wanted to start with the essentials: talking about what we're passionate about - origami - and what gives our shop its name - orizuru.
Origami
A short word, an immense art. Origami, from the Japanese oru (to fold) and kami (paper), is the art of transforming a sheet of paper (generally square) into a specific shape. Hand-folding requires concentration, patience, and precision. Origami is a creative hobby accessible to everyone, which calms the mind as much as it delights the eye.
Today, origami has traveled far beyond its original borders and inspires designers, mathematicians, engineers, and even surgeons.

Orizuru, a universal symbol
The term orizuru means "paper crane" in Japanese. It is the most iconic figure in origami. This bird fold is a symbol of peace, longevity, and happiness in Japan.
Legend has it that whoever folds a thousand cranes will have their wish granted. This tradition, popularized by the moving story of Sadako Sasaki, has become a worldwide symbol of peace, hope, and healing.
